Nancy:
As a general rule, you can subtract the fiber from the total carbohydrate content since the fiber in foods is not absorbed. I agree with you about the carbohydrate count in the protein bars. I recommend using no more than 1 per day if at all possible because of the higher carbohydrate content. For long term – a good way to think is to try to have at least 2 times as much protein on your plate as carbohydrate (2:1 ration of protein:carbs). I hope this helps! Congratulations on your 10 pound weight loss. We welcome any other comments or questions.

Thank you CMH for encourageing me finally get serious about my weight. I’m trying to get 100 gr of protien and limit my carbs to 50 each day. Can I subtract the listed fiber on labels from the total carbs? I think I’m doing quite well. I’ve lost about 10 pounds in the month since I started . The meal replacement shakes help. I haven’t used the protien bars very much, as most of them have more carbs than I want to spend . Thanks again . Nancy
