Follow Dani’s Journey to Lose 45 Pounds in 6 Months
ByDani is like so many of us. She has struggled with her weight for a number of years. Follow along as she shares her journey towards long term weight loss success through the 6 month weight loss program at the Center for Metabolic Health which includes comprehensive education through their exclusive Weight Management University. You can follow Dani’s journey on the CMH blog!
Appointment with Claire today. Think I may have gained:( We will see.
Claire – Self Talk!! I believe you said that to me last night, so I told myself this morning I did not need a bar with my coffee, it can be a snack I will look forward to in the afternoon. I had a Weight & Inches already and in just acomplishing this small task I feel a tiny bit of success. Change is hard. Anybody else out there like me?????? Talk to me………..
Dani: Try to start every day fresh. We all know that where we are today is a result of our choices and circumstances. In order not to repeat past mistakes we have to change some of our choices. Concentrate on the things that you do really well……….make a list if you have to. Try not to let guilt hinder your progression by changing the way you talk to yourself. For example, instead of telling yourself that you didn’t exercise today, tell yourself that you parked the car further away so that you managed to get in a little extra walking.
Trying times!!!! Getting out of sync with appointments!!!!
Stability ball is a blast! Many of the exercises done on the stability ball utilize the core muscles. Did you know that the idea of using a stability ball for exercise came from physiacl therapy? It is so easy to exercise on the ball while watching your favorite TV shows.
Thanks Dr. Clark and Claire, your support is so encouraging! Dawn emailed me all of the exercises I did at our workout sooooo tonight instead of vegging on the couch I will exercise. We used the exercise ball for several of the exercises so it will be fun, I”m sure I will amuse the dogs!!!!!
Being a personal trainer myself and having been in the fitness field for many years, I am always amazed how when clients first begin an exercise program they expect to feel more energetic and less hungry! In reality, most people will actually feel more tired and hungry when they first start! It takes a little while before the body adjusts and then you DO begin to feel more energetic and less hungry. So, Dani hang in there! Dawn always makes it fun.
Good job Dani! I’m proud of you. The exercise part is extremely important. This is the beginning of good things to come. It will be hard at first, but keep it up and the overall health/weight loss results will be well worth it.

I did it !!!!! I worked out with Dawn, Personal Trainer – she was wonderful. It was a bit intimidating at first but that feeling did not last long. It was fun and I am looking forward to our next session. I had to reschedule my appointment with Claire due to a work conflict. Will keep you informed.
Dani – another 2 pounds down is wonderful. If you find yourself strapped in the house this weekend because of the weather – make a large pot of soup with plenty of low carbohydrate vegetables and lean protein. Be creative with seasonings. Every time you want to snack, have some soup. Keep busy by finding something that you enjoy doing. Crafts that keep your fingers busy are great. I love to take advantage of bad weather by sorting out my closets and drawers and listing everything that I’m going to give away to charity. I play some of my favorite music while I’m sorting – and have a blast!
I look forward to our meeting next Tuesday.
It’s Friday!!! Starting the day with a positive outlook and a Weight & Inches Shake! Looking forward to a great weekend – snow or not!
Claire – The 3 days of Dr. Clark’s Jump Start were good. Day 1 no problem, day 2, ok but tired, hard to get in that evening shake. Day 3 – Was hard for me, didn’t really feel that good and I am convienced it was carb withdrawl. I did snack on some peanuts Weight down 2 pounds. I have an appointment with you on Tuesday and I have my first session with Dawn the personal trainer also on Tuesday. I am looking forward to meeting with the trainer – but just a little bit apprehensive. She said it will be fun!!! I will believe her!
Dani – How did your 3 days of Dr. Clark’s Jump Start go? You are so close to your half-way mark. Hang in there. Just concentrate on the next 2 lbs to get you to the 20 pound mark. You can do it. If you need some help – make an appointment to come in and see me. I can set you up with a personal trainer so that you can rev up your metabolism by putting on some lean body mass. Exercise can be fun and it doesn’t have to hurt.
Way to go on the 18 pounds. You will make the 45 pounds – I know it!!! Positive thinking results in positive actions. Well, I made it through the 3 days of Jump Start and the weekend. I lost 3.5 pounds and feel more in control now. I do so much better throughout the day if I start with a Weight & Inches 30 gms of protein in the morning. I am fuller and feel like the day will be a good one. I made the mistake of making banana bread over the weekend (knowing it was a weakness for me) but I just tried to have a small treat to keep the craving at bay (and then encouraged everyone else to eat it up) so that was helpful. I hope you stayed safe & warm and had a good weekend. I also did cardio fitness Saturday and Sunday and it felt good. Like you mentioned, I will need to add resistance training today.
Yo yo Dieter – you are exactly right. One meal at a time. The Weight & Inches shakes are very filling and it was difficult for me also to get everything in. Today I saw Dr. Clark, total weight loss – 18 pounds. That is great news but my Lean Body Mass is also down 6 pounds. Dr. Clark says not terrible but should at a minimum maintain LBM, even better if it increases. Still need to exercise.
Hi Dani – one day “under our belts” and I am excited. I lost 1.5 pounds and couldn’t even get the shakes all in since they are so filling. As Claire says – one day at a time (sometimes one meal at a time). My body was grateful for the protein and lack of sugar swings that excess carbohydrates cause – really decreases the hunger cravings too. I’m enjoying my 30 grams of protein and yummy Weight & Inches shake right now – ready to tackle day #2. I need to stock up on my vitamins at CMH though. I had enough for today but I am running low on the B-Complex and EFA’s. I’m going to check on chromate too for the carb cravings. Have a great day!
It has been proven over and over again that people who lose weight with a “buddy” are more successful. It’s great that the two of you have commited yourselves to 3 days of Dr. Clark’s Jump Start Diet. I know that you will both be successful as 3 days is really attainable.
Dani, I know that you are still struggling with people bringing cookies etc. into the house or office. It is very difficult when they bring all kinds of “goodies” in when you are trying so hard to make better food choices. To cope with this kind of sabotage you need to develop and use skills in communicating assertively. Learn to speak up! Be willing to say “no” and mean it. You will have to work on finding a compromise that will meet some of everyone’s needs.
Yo yo dieter no more, thanks for the support and motivation. Having a Weight & Inches chocolate shake right now for breakfast. It does help to have support and feel like you are not alone in this journey of change. Three days is such a short time in the sceam of things, we can do this!
Dani – great job on your progress. As you know, I lost 20 pounds last year with the CMH program – something I had been trying to do for over 10 years. I gained some weight back over the holidays (like so many people do) and I am now trying to lose the 10 pounds I gained plus another 5 (total of 15 pounds then). You are an inspiration and you are not alone. The great thing is that it can be done and feels so great! Thanks for agreeing to do 3 days of Dr. Clark’s Jump Start Diet with me starting tomorrow, Doing it together is motivational to me and inspiring – I don’t want to let you or myself down. I’ll keep you posted as well. Many cheers for everyone out there learning how to lose weight and keep it off! I don’t want to yo yo anymore and I am learning and incorporating skills that will last a lifetime!
To Give an update on my weightloss as of today on my home scale my weight is 162lbs. That gives me a total of 15 pounds. Today has been a good day for me as I have kept on track and feel more in control. This has not been an easy journey for me. I can still find an excuse for an carb in a minute, I have made some changes, have made large strides in my understanding of this whole carb/protein thing but I still have to take that big step of really changing my habits. Maybe my expectations are a bit unrealistic, maybe I am expecting change without relapse???? Any thoughts out there????
Claire, that’s wonderful!! A great use for imaginary maggots. It is difficult to have things ( goodies) in areas that we can’t avoid. I have found it helpful to keep some safe snacks like almonds and cheese sticks at work.
Did you feel proud of yourself afterwards for resisting? I have been in work environments where “goodies” were brought in on almost a daily basis. I usually avoided the break room or pulled out a “special” food that didn’t upset my weight loss plans. Imagine maggots all over those donuts.
What a day! Someone brought donuts to work this morning. They have called my name all day – I have resisted!!!!
Dr. Clark is right. I’ll never forget the gentleman who finally graduated with a degree in Art History at the age of 96!!!!!!! It’s never too late to make changes and learn/try new things. That is what makes life so exciting. You are on a journey of change that will ultimately lead to successful weight loss. Life takes us in many directions and as food is such an important part of our lives we have to leave room for flexibility. If we wander off the path – we just have to wander right back!
Dani,
We’re not getting older, we’re getting better! Keep plugging away. You do not want to be saying “would of…, could of…, should of…” next year at this time. Birthdays are a good time to reflect back on what we have accomplished….. and where do we want to go from here. It is never too late to make changes for the better. Besides isn’t 50 the new 30? Stay Strong!!!
